To Janelle and others that have expressed interest in taking Gaga in the U.S.:

Ohad Naharin is going to be teaching a few master classes at Peridance in New York on November 9-10, 2009. Preregistration at http://www.peridance.com is strongly suggested. I hope some of you will get to experience Gaga firsthand at these classes!

Hi Janelle,

I don’t know of any workshops going on in the near future in the U.S. But don’t lose hope! When the Batsheva Dance Company tours, they often give master classes in the cities they visit – so if they’re ever touring near you, keep your eyes open for notices about these classes. Some places in New York have also offered Gaga workshops in the past; you may try checking with Peridance in New York, since I think they’ve been one of the more recent places to host these classes. If I ever find out something, I’ll post it on this site’s calendar.

I hope you’ll get to study Gaga at some point – good luck!

Hello Deborah,

I am truly interested in studying GaGa and when I looked on the events page for workshops in the US there wasn't anything listed. I don't think I can get to Israel right now as I have a young child. Do you know of any workshops in the US?

I just posted a list of upcoming Gaga workshops in the U.S. and Canada on Dance In Israel’s Events page. I don’t have all the details – just general dates and cities, as well as the teacher’s name – but it’s a start! If I get more information about these Gaga classes, I’ll update the calendar.

Thanks for your comment – I’m glad you enjoyed reading this article!

I started studying Gaga when I was living in Israel last year on a Fulbright grant from the U.S., so it was for a long-term period (10 months) and I rented an apartment. (Just for clarification, I officially moved to Tel Aviv in fall 2008 and am here for good now!)

In July, there was indeed a special two-week Gaga intensive held in Tel Aviv; I’ll be putting an article on last summer’s workshop here on Dance In Israel soon. I don’t think housing was supplied, but I do know several people who have visited Israel for up to a few months to study dance and they have been able to either sublet apartments or live cheaply in hostels.

Eventually, I hope to compile some information on studying dance in Israel on the page Dancing in Israel, and you can also check Dance In Israel’s Events page for calendars with classes and workshops to get a sense of what happens on a daily basis (though keep in mind that the page is under development – there’s even more going on than what I have put up so far!). If I find out about any intensives, I’ll post a listing there.
